The change

I decided to change my lifestyle. Stopped smoking and drinking alcohol. I started taking supplements because I know that the food these days are of low quality. I need a balance meal everyday and the safest way was to consume the supplements that I may not know that I may be lacking when eating food. To me I believe in prevention rather than cure. Why go thru the pain? I want that peace of mind that my body is getting the correct amount of nutrients that it needs everyday. I manage to gain up to 45 kilos and I’m working hard to change my other unhealthy habits to gain more weight and get healthier. I used to be able to have my meals without drinking a single drop of water. We need about 2 liters of water each day for our body to function optimally. Most people don’t drink that much everyday. In this hot and humid weather more should be consumed. With everyone working hard, people these days sleep less than they need. I sleep between 4 to 6 hours each day. So I got some results by just changing certain aspects of life. Imagine if I change my lifestyle completely, I’ll be healthier and probably wealthier.

My unhealthy past

Back in those days smoking and drinking alcohol was cool. I therefore destroyed my youth smoking and drinking. I grew up unhealthy, weak and frail. I weighed a mere 39 kg when I was enlisted for NS. I wanted to gain weight but couldn’t because of my unhealthy lifestyle. I watched my grandfather suffered during his old age because of his smoking and drinking habits. One by one his organs failed. He had TB. His stomach, kidney, liver and finally his lungs failed him. He was in and out of the hospitals. He used to be able to travel to wherever he wanted but was reduced to the wheelchair. He really suffered before he went. That prompted me to change my lifestyle. One by one I saw my relatives dropping of like flies due to diseases. I got gastric when working hard and skipping meals or eating late when I started to work. I used to have to take MC almost every month. I really needed to change.

Lifestyle changes

Some may know about these but it’s not easy to do at first. Why? We have developed bad habits that make us unhealthy. Unless we break these habits and replace it with good habits, we will never get healthy. Just some changes can lead to great benefits. That’s where you need gym trainers, coaches etc.. to help you. I have personally made some changes to my lifestyle and reap some of the benefits. It’s not that easy but it’s not that hard either. It requires some discipline and the willingness to change to get better. Contact me if you need some guidance.

Not all that the body needs can be produced by itself.

Therefore it needs to be consumed. But the problem these days is the quality of the food. We tend to consume more of the things that we don’t need and less of the things that we need daily. As this goes on over the years, we get unhealthier.

Lifestyle

I watched a documentary about why humans are getting fatter and unhealthy these days. Lifestyle. Back in the old days, we need to hunt and food was not so abundant. Food was also eaten fresh with no preservatives or polluted. The body was conditioned to keep the reserve energy needed as fats. But these days food is abundant which explains why we eat more. We don’t have to hunt for food. Most of us work comfortably for money which gets us food. We are leading and easier life as compared to our predecessors. We lead sedentary lives. We have transportation to take us from point A to B instead of walking or running. Therefore most adults get unhealthy due to our lifestyle.

The world today

Before we really decide on whether we need supplements or not, let’s have a look what is happening in this day and time. Currently there’s lots of reports of pollutions. The air, land and sea are all being polluted by industralisation. It has affected the environment and created global warming and lots of mayhem. The trees and animals are all affected. The world population is growing but our food resources have not kept up with it. The way we eat these days are more sophisticated as compared to yesteryears. The land is overuse and therefore the quality of food products dependant on the land is affected. We cannot produce food as fast as we need to eat, therefore we created food the last longer in can, packets etc… But these food require preservatives and other additives to make it last longer or taste better. All these may not be good for our bodies. Fresh foods are harvested before they fully ripen so that they can be shipped off early to reach the destination just in time to ripen. Therefore the quality will not be that good. There’s lots of chemicals on the fresh food to keep away the insects. And you don’t know what they use as fertilizers to make the plants grow faster and bigger. Durians were seasonable fruits but now you can get durians all year round. The animals that we eat seemed to be fed with something to make them grow bigger and faster. I’m not sure if these will be good for our bodies when we eat these animals. The seafood that we consume may have eaten some of the contaminants in the sea or river. The contaminants may not have come from the seafood directly. It could have come from some other sea creature along the food chain.

Let’s take another look at another thing. We all know and want to be healthy. Everyone claims that they know and are eating healthily. Therefore the percentage of healthy people in this world should be large, right? In reality a huge percentage of the population is unhealthy. Diseases run rampant. Think about it. Most of the people these days die from some sort of disease instead of dying of old age. Diseases previously prevalent in the older humans are occurring in the younger ones. Why is this happening?
